A brief history of The Chadwick Association in England
The Association owes its formation to the story of the family and estate of Sir Andrew Chadwick, who died in 1768. It was the subject of part of a programme shown by the BBC in autumn of 1994. Mrs Letitia Chadwick offered to co-ordinate an Association for interested viewers with Chadwick history. Many people contacted her through the BBC. We now have a growing membership of people interested in their own line of ancestors, and wanting to discover where and how they lived.
Initially, our aim was to research the family of Sir Andrew and to discover whether or not there is still any unclaimed estate. With this in mind, and remembering stories of old, a number of people hoped to establish a connection with Sir Andrew.
As our Association has developed we have added other aims, such as:
To promote interest in the history and development of family life, our Chadwick ancestors in particular.
To keep in touch by a Quarterly newsletter.
To share the results of our research and to help other researchers where possible. To collect and contribute Chadwick information from any and every source.
To make known to our members the Chadwicks whose lives have contributed to the history and welfare of our country.
By pooling our information we have been able to link a number of families with relatives of whose existence they were unaware. Now that our countries records are gradually being entered on computer, we are able to make use of them more quickly and with more reliability.
